How to play Connect 4

The board has 7 columns and 6 rows. Players take turns choosing a column and dropping a disc, which falls to the lowest free space. The first player to line up four discs horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins. If the board fills up without a line of four, the game is a draw.

Levels and modes

Play against the computer on three levels. Easy makes the occasional mistake, Medium plans only a little ahead, and Hard looks several moves ahead but can still be beaten. Prefer a human opponent? Start in the centre column: it belongs to the most possible lines. Keep an eye on the diagonals, which are easy to miss. The classic winning move is a double threat: set up two different lines of three so your opponent can only block one.
